On Motherhood. (not quite finished)

How easy to be a mother,
To hope and care for everyday,
To plan a bright future
To smile and to play

But forgive me if I say to you
You are not a true mother in my eyes
You have not truely experienced motherhood
Until you have had to say goodbye

Until you have cried for a child
Experienced their pain
Mourned for their lives however brief
No matter what age

For then you are a true mother in my eyes
No matter if the world denies
A tue mother is not neccessarily one of the living
But one who loved and had to say goodbye.

How human to be a mother
To miss the child not there
She has the strength of the world
And the weight of it she must bear

She realizes what life is then
The smiles and the tears
How comforting that the Journey
Is no longer something to fear

This really is so beautiful. I loved the line about how the Journey is no longer something to fear. I feel that is one of the many gifts my babies left with me. A stronger faith in the eternal, whatever shape and form that may take.
