song lyrics anaylisis help please

So, in the Eagles song "Hotel California"
the lines keep repeating in my head
"some dance to remember, some dance to forget"
except in my head it keeps repeating
"some drink to remember, some drink for forget"
What does this mean?
does it have to do with my glass of wine tonight?
or does it have to do with me realizing that yesterday she should have been (and yes, I said should and not would) one month old?
Thoughts? or am I just fishing now?

Very prescient. I think both, for sure. A month after our son died, I drank a little (a lot) too much Baileys. After about an hour of tipsy fun and forgetfulness, the remembering part hit HARD, and I cried so hard and became sicker than I've ever been in my life. I think, though I wouldn't recommend or repeat the experience, that it was therapeutic for me.

You're right, your daughter should have been a month old. I still so wish she was here with you now.

Yes, she should be a month old today. I'm so sorry.

And it never fails that drinking to forget always seems to lead to a painful level of remembering. Why is that?

I think you've hit the nail on the head...and I agree with Lori...not sure why that is.

Thinking of you. These anniversary dates are so hard. Sending you a huge cyber hug.

Some days I have a glass of wine or a cocktail after Monkey goes to bed. I have not gotten drunk yet, but there were definitely days when it helped in that it sort of opened me up to ether talk or write more (whatever the case was in each case) more freely.
Funny thing-- not a single book on grief that I have seen tells you that this may be a helpful thing once in a while.
I am so sorry the should've thing is there... We shouldn't need the should'ves...

Some drink for both reasons....

I drank a LOT the summer after Nicolas died. In fact i would say it was theraputic for me, even though it was a mite out of control. I was occasionally halfway through the second bottle of wine by the time DH got home. Smart man didn't say anything...but then we moved back to the States, where wine is not as cheap to abuse. Ah, economics bites...

I sometimes have a glass of wine or of calvados. But L doesn't drink and, while he would never say anything, I know he worries if I sit at home and drink alone -- even if it's just a glass.
