Scared....

I am really scared. My doctor just called about the pap smear she did on me last month....too many abnormal cells categorizing it as "cervic.al dys.plasia" in the precan.cerous condition...which means I have to now undergo a colp.oscopy.
The procedure is horrifying to me.
What's even more horrifying is that if they don't catch this in time, and it does end up devloping into cancer, I'll have to have a hy.sterecto.my.
Maybe I don't have as much time as I thought to have kids.......
What else do you want to throw at me?

(tears...)

(edited to add in 2004 when I found out I was pregnant with my son, I had a slighty abnormal pap and I think they said I had H.PV at that time. Subsequent paps have all come back normal...)

These things can be a one time thing, or they can be more serious. I had one abnormal test, but the repeat one showed that it wasn't from HPV, and all that is required of me for now is yearly repeats, as opposed to once every three years.

I know several people who had it caught at the stage that it sounds like yours has been caught at, and though the immediate treatment is rather unpleasant, none of them have so far had a recurrence. I hope the same is true for you. I know this is very scary. I am sorry.

Oh honey, don't be worried about it! It could easily turn out to be nothing at all. I know it's scary to hear the big C word, but don't worry!

OMG, missing_one, I'm so sorry. So sorry. I don't even know what else to say, except I'm thinking of you, cursing the Universe for giving you this to worry about. XO.

When I was in college I had a pap come back with dysplasia. The nurse left a message on a Friday that I had abnormal results and I endured a horrible weekend before having a chance to talk to the doctor to get things explained to me. I had a colposcopy as well. Long story short: I was scared throughout the experience, but it is 13 years later and--with the exception of one other pap coming back with similar results (and another colposcopy) four years later--everything is fine. I just have to get yearly paps now and I am thankful that they are able to do the thin-prep tests, because they catch things so early.

I will be thinking about you and sending you healing and peaceful thoughts.

I know it is hard not to worry, but I am sure it is nothing...I had the same thing happen to me several years ago...had the colposcopy (it is really not that big of a deal, so don't be scared) done and everything was fine...I am sure this will be the case for you....keeping you in my thoughs and prayers!

Yes, scary, but what Julia said. It's a curve ball. Catch it and take it out of play. {{{hugs}}}

Thinking of you, sending you strength to deal with this additional B.S. and hoping it is the easily treatable, one time thing and gone forever, just as Julia said.
